The Pacific Northwest is of course known for its outdoor paths and trails, and Robin Hood Village Resort is in the perfect location to capitalize on some really interesting ones. Most are within a one hour drive, and make perfect day trips.  Here are some of our top picks for trails that you’ll be sad if you don’t check out:

Hood Canal & Dalby Waterwheel  — Right outside of the resort, you’ll cross the creek and take a right on the trail.  Stop by the Union Square Deli for a bite to eat and continue toward the historic Waterwheel.  Once you’re finished admiring the Waterwheel and taking pictures, you’ll be able to continue on to the trail head.  Cross the creek into a canopy of 300 year old trees and breathtaking views.

Tumwater Falls Park - Tumwater Falls park is open to the public and free of charge.   You’ll be able to glimpse the old Olympic brewery, check out local foliage (and beautiful flowers), and may even catch the salmon swimming upstream in the Fall.  There is also a playground to occupy children.  For more information:

Twanoh State Park - Twanoh is a publicly owned recreation area on the Hood Canal, and is comprised of 182 acres and over 3000 feet of saltwater shoreline. There are 2.5 miles of inland hiking trails, and water so warm you’ll be able to swim in it.  You can also purchase a boating pass for the day, or participate in other unique water activities, weather permitting. Oyster season is open year round, and firewood is sold as well, so you’ll be able to stay for a meal, or to relax after your hike.

Staircase Rapids —  Last but not least, Staircase is a beautiful trail where you may spot a few deer before it starts to snow.   It’s $25 per car or $10 per walker, and it’s a heavily trafficked 2.1 mile loop trail that’s appropriate for all skill levels.  It’s also mostly accessible year round. Be careful, because the road is washed out currently (December 2017) about 0.8 miles short of the trail head.  Regardless of that, Staircase is an impressive hike, and although it’s not as close to Robin Hood as some of the other trails and hikes, it’s definitely an awe-inspiring trail that’s not to be missed.

No matter which trail you choose, whether right around the corner or a day trip away, you’re bound to have an extraordinary adventure!  Hopefully you’ll consider staying at Robin Hood Village Resort so that you’ll be staying close enough to able to try them all!
